California keeps is spacey reputation

PG&E is seeking to invest in a solar-energy-from-space venture. I would love to know what the speculative economics are on it. In my time at the CEC I came across several former DOD or NASA types who seem to think space is the answer to everything. Most famous during the 2001 electricity crisis was a company that wanted to use signals from satellites to control shopping center air-conditioning loads (the company was DBS, which we called “Done By Space”). Solar from space may work, but I suspect it will be in the same category as with fusion, meaning, it’s a long way off, will cost a lot, and we need carbon reductions now…
